"It has all been said before !! ..........a very comfortable gîte, an interesting village with excellent walks, especially when accompanied by Tizzy who decides which way to go. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
Jan '08, Graham & Julie, Lincs UK.
"Scenery fantastic at this time of year.............Fish in the river abundant - dace, gudgeon, barbel, trout, bream (small) and monster carpe!"
1 Nov-1 Dec '07, Graham & Sheila, Grantown-on-Spey.www.cragganmill.co.uk/
"As OAP's who have been to France many times, we have always hoped to find perfection. Unfortunately, either the scenery has been very beautiful and the accommodation only just adequate or vice versa. At last, here in Lagrasse, we have found that perfection. Lagrasse is a beautiful and interesting village with all that we need, and the "balcon" apartment is absolutely delightful. When we saw the photos it looked very attractive but they do not do it justice and the real thing is so much better. Everything is of such a high standard, with many thoughtful touches.............and to sleep with the rippling water just outside the bedroom is bliss. A perfect holiday and oh yes NO MOSQUITOS !
Val & David Nash, Sandy, Bedfordshire PS On our very last morning whilst we were watching a grey heron fishing, a kingfisher landed on the balcony rail !"
"A perfect retreat where everyone is happy (2 children and a baby) ....... Overall a super holiday - great hosts - super place and the comfiest beds ever we've had in a gîte, and we've visited a few!"
The Drake Family, Stratford-upon-avon
"The gîte was fantastic, especially the view and the access to the river. After visiting Minerve, Mirepoix, Carcassonne, Adge etc...Lagrasse was by far our favorite place. Enjoyed the sun, peace and tranquility. Thank you for making us so welcome."
Fiona & Brian, London
"Un grand merci pour votre accueil très chaleureux et sympathique, ainsi/aussi que pour votre aimable simplicité. Votre maison est très jolie et bien retapée et le cadre du village très agréable. Merci pour tout."
Jean Baptiste et Karine
"...........magnificent setting - limestone escarpments- clean river- panoramic views- great walks. Historic town-sense of 'frozen in time' . Will always remember the 'night chorus of frogs and the perfume of the garrigue. Thank you for your hospitality, advice and general knowledge of the region."
Phyllis & Dermot, Ireland
"Our days started with croissant from the local boulangerie and then we headed out to explore this wonderful area of unspoilt France........We hope to return in the near future"
Jeff, Sandie, Kathryn, Bucks
"Lagrasse and the gîtes are simply lovely - a rare `hit' from the internet! We didn't know what to expect but Kate and Roger's hospitality and friendliness helped us to make the most of the area. A big thank you.....All in all we've had a super, super stay here and hope to see you again."
Gary, Sarai and Hal, Hampshire
"Had a lovely taste of living in a sleepy French village. The boys have enjoyed swimming in the river, exploring and especially the table tennis tournaments! The (Riverside) giîte is lovely, well equipped and full of character. Have explored the area...but the best things are to be enjoyed by looking out of the window or stepping onto the little square outside. Thank you for a wonderful holiday! PS Hope that Tizzy will one day catch a fish..!"
John, Lynn, Richard & Michael, Shropshire
"Avons apprécie votre accueil chaleureux, le calme de l'endroit, sa beauté, et toute la région. Cordialement,"

"19th july- whenever !! Obviously time does not mean much here! Haven't worn a watch all holiday. Had a wonderful relaxing time - reading, swimming, eating good food and enjoying the occasional 'dram'. ........my two week break has totally renewed the batteries."

"We have had an absolutely marvelous ten days in Lagrasse - accommodation, weather, village have all been superb. The music last weekend in the square was great - terrific atmosphere which we will all carry with us through the depths of a Scottish winter! Great meals in all the restaurants we tried, especially St Pierre les champs!"
Phil & Cath, Ullapool
".........Bird Highlights included Scops Owl calling at night across the river, being woken by Cettis warbler, Cirl buntings on the hills and 18 Black Kites and one dark phase Booted Eagle. Also serin, bee eaters, hoopoe, woodchat shrike, black redstarts, sparrows, crag martins, Sardinian warlbler, sedge warbler, goldfinches and a huge variety of butterflies, swallowtails, fritillaries etc We also saw a large (1foot) brilliant green lizard."

"We have had a very comfortable stay in a well equipped apartment; so well equipped that we only ate out on the last evening!! Visited many of the sights but it would have been nice to have spent more time in the apartment - one week isn't enough!"

".....this holiday has been unlike any other, I can truly say that I am relaxed after this past week of touring medieval castles, a few skiing trips and scrumptious French food (boulangerie in the village highly recommended).Ý Thanks for everything and Seasons's Greetings!

"We came for a break - now we do not want to leave........ I guess Winter in Lagrasse has spoilt us."

"Lagrasse is a beautiful, relaxing and peaceful village nestling on the banks of l'Orbieu and surrounded by tree-lined hills, where you can step back in time and explore unspoilt medieval narrow, cobbled streets and history! The Abbey is very much part of the village and is still inhabited by monks. It is open to visits.
Kate and Roger made us most welcome and advised us of 'must-see' places. They were very helpful and friendly but unobtrusive. We stayed in the Balcony Gite, which was warm, cosy and very well equipped. ÝEven a whole range of reading materials to cater for most tastes.Ý Kate had decorated it for our Christmas holiday stay!!
Lagrasse is very well situated to explore the Aude Valley and Carcassonne (which was busy even at Christmas) to the north, the coast to the south-east and the spectacular wild mountains and Pyrenees to the south-west. ÝAll within easy reach.
We were enchanted by the spectacular Cathar chateaus perched high on cliff tops and hills, and the numerous deep gorges. We even had a trip into Spain!
Lagrasse, itself, has numerous walks into the surrounding hills, with fabulous views or along the river. The shops provided a good range of provisions, especially locally made products.
The weather, for us, was quite warm, about 10c-14c, with clear blue skies and sunshine. However on Boxing Day it snowed and the whole place became magical!! A superb location to just stop and relax!!"
